I recently had a great experience with Dr. Kuriakose at Optima Eye Care in Hayward. He was thorough and professional from our first consultation to the end of the postoperative surgery. He performed the laser-assisted cataract surgery and implanted multifocal lens (Clareon Vivity Toric IOL)on both eyes that were one week apart. Each surgery was first thing in the morning and on time! After each surgery, I had a day-after appointment to check the pressure and the progress of my eye. I could instantly see clearer and brighter as if I’m wearing glasses. I am able to write this review with ease after my surgery yesterday. The entire surgery was less than 20 mins. There was no need to be nervous. Dr. Kuriakose and his operating staff were so kind and made the process seamlessly and painlessly. Shoutout to Christina and Jeanette. I loved the numbing spray used to insert the IV! The anesthesiologist was just as amazing. I would highly recommend Dr. Kuriakose for your surgery eye care.

I had both eye surgeries scheduled with Dr kuriakose at optima eye care. As anxious as I was I was treated with compassionate care and professionalism. Terri Janelle Christina and Dr Gee made sure I was comfortable The team at optima eye care are always available and deliver the service with compassion. The place is clean and accommodating. DR K takes his time to explain the process and procedure which helps with understanding. Dr K and his team serve with dignity and professionalism and are very knowledgeable. I recommend this center for your eye health needs.

I would like to thank Dr. Kuriakose for the exceptional care he provided to my mother. His skill, kindness, and calm approach made the entire process smooth and reassuring. Dr Kuriakose is my recommended doctor to perform cataract surgery. After the second eye was given a new lens, I chucked my glasses and noticed improved vision - especially at night. With the new Light Adjustable Lenses (LAT) that I have, I am looking forward to my eyesight to be even better in a few weeks. (Look up LAT as an option for your cataract surgery.) Optima is the place to go for professional and up to date service.

Does it hurt?
Numbing drops, sometimes a mild relaxing tablet, no needles. Most people feel pressure and see a bright light for a few minutes, and their first words are ‘wait, that’s it?’
Am I a candidate?
Ages 21 to 60, nearsighted from −3 to −20, a prescription that’s been stable for a year, enough room inside the eye and a healthy cell count. Dr. Kuriakose’s measurements decide, not your birthday.
How much does it cost?
Here’s a straight answer: at Optima Eye the price is the same for every patient, whatever your prescription. It’s a custom implant placed in an operating room, so it costs more than LASIK, and most patients finance it monthly. You’ll get the exact number, in writing, at your consultation. If a laser touch-up is ever needed afterward, it’s included.
Is it reversible?
It’s removable. Removing it is a short procedure, not a magic undo, and your old prescription comes back. What stays true is that your cornea was never reshaped, so every future option stays open.
Will I still need glasses?
For distance, most people don’t. For reading, everyone’s eyes need help in their forties, and this lens doesn’t change that.
Will I get halos at night?
Early on, some people notice rings or halos around lights. For most they fade over the first few months. Dr. Kuriakose measures your pupils in the dark before ordering the lens, so you know in advance where you’re likely to land.
Does it cause dry eye?
It doesn’t touch the surface of the eye, so it doesn’t contribute to dry eye the way laser can. The first few weeks can feel dry while you heal, and if you already have dry eye, that gets treated first.
Is it safe long term?
It’s been in eyes for thirty years and FDA-approved for twenty. In the three-year US data: one lens-related cataract in six hundred eyes and no cases of the pupil-block problem the older lens could cause. Your pressure and cell counts get checked every year.
What if LASIK is actually the better fit for me?
Then that’s what Dr. Kuriakose will recommend. LASIK is a great procedure, and he performs it, along with PRK and lens replacement. The consultation covers all of them.
